Cheese Masala Dosa
20Our masala dosa, finished with melted mozzarella over the spiced potato.
South Indian & Sri Lankan kitchen
Crisp, golden dosas, slow-cooked curries, fresh naan and Sri Lankan kottu — cooked to order on the ground floor of Riverside Market.
Our kitchen
Dosa Kitchen is a counter kitchen inside Riverside Market, a few steps from the Ōtākaro Avon River.
Everything starts with the dosa — a fermented rice-and-lentil batter spread paper-thin on a hot tawa, rolled around spiced potato and served with sambar and fresh chutneys. Around it sit the dishes the south is known for: soft idli and uttapam, lamb and chicken curries, paneer and dal, naan from the tandoor, and Sri Lankan kottu chopped on the griddle.
Order at the counter, collect from the window, and take a seat upstairs or out by the river.

Start with a dosa — it’s the dish we’re named for. Every one comes with sambar and house chutneys.

The classic. A thin, crisp dosa wrapped around potato and onion masala.
Free-range egg spread across the dosa on the tawa, then filled with masala.
Overnight-marinated tandoori chicken in a buttery, creamy tomato gravy.
Soft cottage cheese in a spiced spinach sauce with onion and herbs.
Sri Lankan street food
From the Sri Lankan side of the kitchen: roti shredded and tossed on the hot plate with egg, vegetables and spice, finished with chicken or lamb if you like. Alongside it, wok-fried noodles, fried rice and a sticky, spicy chilli chicken.
